South Korea is a nation located in the north-east of Asia. Home to a population of more than 50 million people, this industrious and ever-growing country once existed as one united nation with North Korea before conflicts resulted in the historic split that makes it the separate country it is today.
A strong presence in Australian society today, according to the 2011 census more than 74 000 people of Korean descent live in Australia, and with more than half of Korean-born Australians having arrived within the last decade, this number is only expected to grow and grow. Within Sydney the areas of Strathfield, Lidcombe and Eastwood have become populated by large communities of Korean-Australians.

Fun Facts
- In Korea, it is practically expected that students (even as young as Kindergartners) attend hagwons; after-school institutes similar to tutoring. It is not uncommon for students to come home as late as 11pm from these hagwons.
- Korean pop music, otherwise known as K-Pop, is almost integral to modern Korean culture. In fact, hardcore fans which are called sasaengs are infamous through the K-Pop industry for crazy antics such as stalking, and even breaking into idols' houses all to show the extent of their love for K-Pop.
- Unlike many other Asian nations, South Korea only has one accepted system of speaking and writing, making communication incredibly easy within the nation.
